Consumers Energy has turned on its new solar farm in Kalamazoo. The 8.5 acre facility sits on property at the Western Michigan University Business, Technology and Research Park. Consumers Energy spokesperson Roger Morgenstern says WMU will use some of its power.

“They have committed to buying up to one megawatt of electricity that is made by this park,” Morgenstern said.

Morgenstern says the facility will produce enough electricity to power about 200 homes. In addition to using its power, WMU will use the solar farm to teach students about solar panels. A ceremony will be held next month to mark its opening.
