The 100th anniversary of Ratcliffe Field in South Haven will be commemorated Friday night when the South Haven Rams host the Plainwell Trojans. Tara Wilkenson is the marketing coordinator for the high school and says they’re turning it into a big community party.

“We will have a small carnival and tailgate prior to the game at 5:30,” Wilkenson says. “We’re inviting back alumni band members, past athletes, everybody who has a connection to that field.”

South Haven High School started playing baseball on the site in 1916, and bought the field for $1 in 1926. It was renovated in the 1950s and again in the mid-1970s and 1999 and 2000. Local businessman William Ratcliffe was leasing the field 100 years ago and let the school use the field for free until he bought it and sold it to the school. Kickoff is 7 p.m. We will broadcast the game on SuperHits 103.7 COSY FM.
