St. Joseph City Commissioners have sent proposed zoning regulations for B&Bs back to the planning commission for some additional work. On Monday, a lengthy discussion was held on the updated bed and breakfast rules. Commissioner Mary Goff tells WSJM News her main concern is being able to keep B&Bs to a minimum in areas zoned for single family homes.

“I wanted to make sure that we still have the options to deny something based on how it would affect the character of a neighborhood, which we can do,” Goff said.

Commissioners also want the rules to address things like how long people can stay in a B&B, how the signage is lit, how long a B&B owner is allowed to be away, and the number of bathrooms each one has. The planning commission has been working on the regulations for months, and now gets back to the drawing board.
