Congressman Fred Upton says the House is working to find help for those who use EpiPens after the company that makes them jacked up the price. The life-saving devices are used to treat severe allergic reactions, and they’ve gone up in price from about $100 in 2007 to $600 today. Upton says the House is seeking answers from the FDA.

“We’ve got a major letter going, it’s going to be bipartisan, asking why they’ve done that because it’s happened for a couple years,” Upton said.

Upton says he wants to know if there are other drug companies lined up to make a generic version of the EpiPen, and whether that could be allowed. He also wants to know if an agency that works with the FDA inadvertently opened the door for the drugmaker to increase the price of its injectors by classifying them incorrectly.
