St. Joseph City Commissioners are seeking a moratorium on bed and breakfasts in family neighborhoods. The decision came Monday after a long discussion on proposed changes to the zoning rules on B&Bs. Those were tabled while a broader solution is pursued. Commissioner Jeff Richards told us he’s satisfied for now.

“Ill be more satisfied when this is completely considered and studied, and we do all of the right things that we need to make sure that the residential neighborhoods are solid,” Richards told WSJM News.

Richards says allowing B&Bs, commercial operations, in R-1 zones, or neighborhood with single-family homes, could lead to the entire character of the area being lost. City staff will draw up the moratorium to hod for a few months while the commission looks at a comprehensive set of B&B rules.
