Voters have approved Lake Michigan College’s millage request. It was a close one, but in the end, the millage passed by about 680 votes. LMC President Dr. Bob Harrison tells WSJM News it’s gratifying to get the public’s support. Now that the money is secured, detailed planning for building improvements and course offerings begins.

“We’ve done a lot of planning, but we will start to add more detail to it, so that we make sure that we’re using the resources that voters have approved in a very methodical and thoughtful process,” Harrison said.

Harrison says the vote shows southwest Michigan voters are willing to invest in their future. The millage increase of .48 mills for 10 years will work out to about $24 per year in extra taxes for someone with a home worth $100,000.
