Indiana Michigan Power has completed its solar plant in Watervliet, and the facility is now up and running. Spokesperson Tracy Warner tells WSJM News the 50,000 panel solar farm will generate about 4.6 megawatts of power, which is enough for about 2,000 homes.

“One thing about the solar plants is that Indiana Michigan Power’s peak demands almost always come on hot summer days, and that’s the time that a solar plant like this one should be producing the most power,” Warner said.

The 30 acre site is off Red Arrow Highway just east of town near an I&M substation. Ground was broken on it over the summer, and Warner says it helps I&M keep a diverse energy portfolio.
