The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning is asking holiday revelers to avoid driving while tipsy, buzzed, or Blitzen this month. Spokesperson Melody Kindraka tells WSJM News extra officers are now out and about.

“There’s going to be a lot of extra people on the road, there’s going to be a lot of extra partying, and there’s also going to be a lot of extra law enforcement officers,” Kindraka said. “From now until January 1, officers from police departments, sheriff’s offices, and Michigan State Police will be stepping up drunk driving enforcement across the state.”

Police have their eye open for drunk or buzzed drivers with extra patrols through New Year’s Day. Kindraka tells us alcohol was involved in seven crashes that resulted in fatalities during last year’s holiday enforcement period.
