If Royalton Township leaders get their way, the township could get some big park improvements next year. The township has applied for two state grants, totaling $300,000, to pay for work at Bicentennial Park and the nature trail off Bacon School Road. Township Manager Steve Tilly tells WSJM News they want to fix up the trail.
“We’re looking at putting in boardwalk access down to the river, putting in an asphalt parking lot, and upgrading the current nature trail there that’s in pretty rough shape,” Tilly said.
Eventually, the trail system in Royalton Township could end up connecting with trail systems in St. Joseph and Benton Harbor. As for Bicentennial Park, Tilly says they’re seeking a grant so they can add new playground equipment, a pavilion, a walking path, and other features. The work would take place through 2019.
