Police Begin Boating Enforcement Efforts This Weekend

Police are urging boaters to make this a safe Memorial Day weekend. Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas tells WKZO News it’s important to plan ahead before hitting the water.

“Tell somebody exactly what you’re going to do and where you’re going to go,” Matyas said. “Before you even start that engine, you go on that boat and make sure you’ve got a life preserver for every person that’s going to be on that boat.”

Matyas tells us boating enforcement becomes front and center in the agenda this time of year. In particular, his officers will be looking out for reckless use of wave runners.
