Bill Would Create Tax Credit To Cover School Fees

Parents who have to pay fees to schools for their kids to play sports or take part in other extracurricular activities would get a break under legislation in the Michigan House. State Representative Peter Lucido of Macomb County is sponsoring legislation to give them a tax credit for those fees.

“If we pay a fee as a parent, we should be given that benefit back as a tax credit of some sort, any sort,” Lucido said.

The Republican says it would be an incentive for parents to get their kids involved in activities. Some school districts have had to start charging those fees because of rising costs and lower amounts of state aid payments from the government.
