Some students who took part in an Andrews University summer program have created a new sculpture for Cafe Gulistan in Harbert. The Renaissance Kids, a summer architecture camp run by Andrews, spent the season working on the design inspired by cafe owner Ibrahim Parlak. Renaissance Kids Director Mark Moreno spoke with WSJM News about the project.

“It was inspired by Ibrahim’s story, and it represents ‘Those that embrace the one that is different,’” Moreno said.

The sculpture designed by 13-year-old Tristan Ficks is now installed at Cafe Gulistan. The Renaissance Kids are planning a celebration at the cafe this weekend with Parlak’s blessing. You can find out more about the Renaissance Kids right here.
