Taking place this Saturday is yet another Bissell Pet Foundation “Empty the Shelters” event. Bissell’s Holly Kroeze tells us the Grand Rapids-based Bissell foundation will pay the adoption fees for animals adopted in nearly 20 shelters around the country. That includes the Van Buren County Animal Control Shelter in Hartford. The event comes in response to the hurricanes down south. Bissell has been bringing critters from shelters in Florida and Texas to Michigan.

“We’re actually still working with different shelters,” Kroeze said. “I know the count is in the hundreds right now. People are so generous during this time. It’s awesome to see.”

Bissell is flying out animals who were already in shelters to make way for the newly displaced pets coming in until their owners find them. Kroeze tells us it’s paying the adoption fees for any hurricane dog who finds a forever home at a Michigan shelter this Saturday. Remember — they’re working with the Van Buren County Animal Shelter in Hartford. The shelter will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They told us Friday they’ve got eight dogs currently on hand.
