Road Maintenance Vehicles Aim To Increase Winter Visibility

Road crews will be more visible this coming winter, thanks to a new policy that’s been adopted by most county road agencies around Michigan. Christina Strong with the County Road Association of Michigan tells WSJM News maintenance trucks in most places now have blinking green lights.

“Green light, according to science, is more visible to the eye than other colors, and it can be seen farther away,” Strong said. “So, flashing green lights are useful, especially when you have conditions with low visibility, like in the winter.”

The blinking green lights were introduced in 2016 following a new Michigan law designed to improve road visibility on trucks actively grooming the roads. Strong says if you spot one in the distance, you should give it plenty of room.
