With a U.S. Senate run under consideration, Congressman Fred Upton tells WSJM News he knows he’s a much bigger target for the Michigan Democratic Party than ever before in 2018. The Democrats this week put out a statement criticizing the Republican’s campaign fundraising from the pharmaceutical industry.

“I raised a half-million dollars or so in this last quarter, and $10, $11,000 of it came from pharmaceuticals. I’m not denying that, it’s a pretty small percentage. But I also have to say, the district I represent, our largest employer is Pfizer,” Upton tells WSJM News. Also in the district are generic drugmaker Perrigo in Allegan and medical equipment manufacturer Stryker in Kalamazoo County. Democrats say from 2011 through this year, Upton has raised about $1.3 million from the prescription drug industry.
