Target has issued a statement on the upcoming closure of the Benton Township store. A spokesperson tells WSJM News the decision to close the Target at 960 Fairplain Drive was not made lightly. She writes Target has a “rigorous process” in place to evaluate each location’s performance on an annual basis. She adds, typically, a Target will be closed “as a result of seeing several years of decreasing profitability.” Target goes on to say eligible employees at the Benton Township location will be offered the opportunity to transfer to other Target locations. Target does have stores in Mishawaka and South Bend. The Benton Township Target will close for good on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
