Technically, the winter doesn’t start until December 21, but it’s December, the temperatures are getting below 30 at night, it could now, and flu season is here. Berrien County Health Department spokesperson Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News the time to get a flu vaccine in time for the holiday parties is now.

“This week, the CDC has declared National Influenza Vaccination Week,” Conrad said. “So, it is a really great time to get that flu shot. It takes about 2 weeks for a flu shot to get that immunity. So, get it now.”

Conrad tells us the Berrien County Health Department will have a walk-in clinic this Friday. The flu shot is cheap, but she says the health department doesn’t turn anyone away because of money. Also, she notes if you want to avoid other winter bugs and the norovirus, the single biggest thing you can do is wash your hands frequently.
