MI Utility Crews Head To Puerto Rico To Help With Hurricane Recovery

About 50 linemen and 30 support staff for DTE Energy in Michigan are heading to Puerto Rico this week to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, which hit nearly four months ago. DTE lineman James Shaw is making the 30 day trip and spoke with Michigan News about it.

“We would imagine that it’s not like any other storm,” Shaw said. “It’s going to be a little different because we’re coming from a cold climate going to a very hot climate. The terrain’s a little different. It’s mountainous and a lot of vegetation.”

Shaw says they’re excited to go help out people who haven’t had power in a long time. Utility crews from several companies in Michigan have stepped up to help with hurricane recovery.
