There will be a statewide tornado drill this week. Organized by the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division, the drill will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday. MSP Spokesperson Dale George tells WSJM News businesses, families, and other organizations are invited to take part.

“Where do you go? Where is a tornado shelter? The more you know, the safer you are. You want to practice these plans, know where you’re supposed to go, know who you’re supposed to contact.”

George tells us those with emergency weather radios will hear alerts, and radio and TV stations are also broadcasting them as part of the effort. Emergency preparedness officials tell us everyone is encouraged to know what to do in the event of a tornado. They often come with less than 10 minutes lead-in time, so advance preparedness is key. State police have a list of tornado recommendations on their website.
