Lack of wind caused major delays for racers in the annual Queen’s Cup yacht race. It got underway Friday morning in Milwaukee and was supposed to end Saturday morning in St. Joseph. By 11:00am, there were only two racers who had completed. Denny Dryer is from Grand Haven and has been a participant in the race for the past 32 years. He explains what racers do when there is no wind…

“You try to find wind, you try to keep the boat moving. You don’t necessarily care where you are going, you just figure if you get a wave of wind, and you can follow it, it will take you to more wind. It’s all wishful thinking”.

He says he didn’t participate this year because he couldn’t get a crew together. He said he does loves racing…

“Racing sailboats, the most fun you can have at 6 miles and hour, with clothes on”

The event is one of the oldest cups in world yachting that is still open for competiton every year.
