Details On Active Shooter Alert System Being Worked Out

Now that the governor has signed into law an active shooter alert system, Michigan State Police are working on determining how it will be implemented. The alert system was inspired by this year’s shooting rampage in Kalamazoo that left six dead. Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says it will be similar to the Amber Alert system.

“Ultimately it made sense that we would be able to use the exact same system to alert our citizens to a potential danger in their area,” Fuller said.

Governor Rick Snyder approved the active shooter alert system last month, and another ceremonial signing for it was held on Tuesday. Sponsor state Representative Brandt Iden, of Kalamazoo County, says there’s isn’t yet a timetable for when the system will be brought online.
