The Michigan Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction and 30-month prison sentence of Edward Pinkney. The Benton Harbor activist was convicted in 2014 of election law violations in a recall attempt against former Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower. The prosecution had alleged that he changed the dates on some of the signatures on petitions. The appeals court ruled 3-0 on Tuesday against his appeal. Pinkney had claimed the prosecution presented insufficient evidence for a conviction and that the court erroneously instructed the jury, among other things. The appeals court disagreed on all points, and Pinkney remains behind bars.
