Kids from 7th through 12th grades are being invited by Michigan State Police to a “Workout With A Cop” event at the Renaissance Athletic Club in Benton Harbor this weekend. Trooper Ryan Codde tells WSJM News it will be a good chance for kids to interact with officers when they’re not in uniform.

“It’s an opportunity for the kids to come and work out with police officers,” he says. “We’re going to have a police officer with every group and we’ll be able to work out with the kids and build positive relationships with the youth in our communities.”

The event is free and will be Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. All kids will need a signed consent form from their parents or guardian to take part, and those will be provided on site. Troopers will have giveways and snacks, and if the weather permits, it will be done outside. The workout will include circuit-style exercises and a police-escorted run. No advance registration is needed, but parents with questions can contact the Renaissance Athletic Club for more information.
