More kids in Michigan have health insurance these days. That’s according to a report by the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families. It says that in 2015, 95% of kids nationally were insured, while 97% of Michigan kids had care. CEO of Michigan’s Children Matt Gillard says that’s great, but there’s still a need to invest in programs that serve the educational, economic, and social needs of families.

While we’re doing well on the health insurance side, and that’s certainly important, there’s many other areas that we’d love to see policymakers and the administration focus on to make sure that we’re doing all that we can for kids and families here in Michigan,” Gillard said.

Still, there remains about 68,000 uninsured kids in Michigan. The increase in overall coverage rates for children around the US has been attributed to the Affordable Care Act.
