State Representative Tom Leonard is the new leader of state House Republicans. He was picked for the job of speaker on Thursday, and says there are a lot of things on his plate.
“I’d like to see us continue to tackle and work on the skilled trades,” Leonard said. “We’ve got thousands of jobs in the state that are not being filled, and we need to make certain that young men and women are trained for those jobs as they go forward, as well as mental health reform.”
Leonard also wants to replace the current teacher pension system with a 401K plan. Governor Rick Snyder issued a statement Thursday, calling the selection of the 35-year-old Leonard a great choice.
