The Michigan senate has approved a long-awaited energy policy. State Representative Aric Nesbitt, of Lawton, is the chair of the House Committee on Energy Policy, and has led the charge on the package. He tells WSJM News the plan is about making sure the state relies on a wide array of energy sources.

“Whether it’s nuclear, coal, natural gas, alternative energy, hydro power, to make sure that we’re finding the lowest costs and alternatives for energy, and making sure that we have a mix of energy to ensure that we don’t experience price shocks in the long term and that the lights are on in our homes and businesses and on our farms,” Nesbitt said.

The state Senate approved the energy policy Thursday, and it looks like the House will approve it after Thanksgiving. Nesbitt says it feels great to finally get the package through, as he’s leaving office at the end of the year because of term limits.
