Advocates for the rights of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender predict there will be challenges under the coming administration of President-elect Donald Trump, but also believe important past legal gains are fairly secure. Hayley Gorenberg, general counsel at Lambda Legal, tells us Trump could appoint an anti-marriage equality Supreme Court justice. However, Gorenberg says replacing Aontonin Scalia with such a justice wouldn’t change anything.

“This resounding marriage-equality victory that we won in the Obergefell case was secured, even with the presence of Justice Scalia on the court.”

Gorenberg adds that, since its founding in 1973, Lambda Legal has seen continued progress in securing LGBT rights. That’s even during hostile administrations.
