Wahmhoff Farms in Gobles has sent out more than 650 Christmas trees to U.S. military personnel as part of this year’s Trees for Troops program. For the tenth year in a row, volunteers loaded up the trees into trucks Monday. The farm’s Betsy Wahmhoff-Perales tells our newsroom it feels great to send trees to military bases for the Christmas season.

“To know that from this location we sent over 650 Christmas tress to Fort Benning, Georgia, that’s over 650-plus families that get together around a Christmas tree, whether their loved ones are around or not,” Wahmhoff-Perales said.

Wahmhoff Farms serves as west Michigan’s drop-off point each year, and the trees they sent out Monday come from all over the region. Since 2005, Trees for Troops has given out more than 176,000 Christmas trees to soldiers and their families
