State Budget Could Be Approved Next Week

The state budget is now back on track. That’s according to state Representative Kim LaSata, who tells WSJM News Governor Rick Snyder has reached a compromise with GOP lawmakers on the teacher pension system. The governor was reluctant to move new teachers into a 401(k) style plan. LaSata tells us something still has to be done about teacher pensions.

“The bottom line is, right now, we’re digging ourselves in deeper and deeper trying to fund these pensions,” LaSata said. “So, something has to change.”

The governor was shut out of the budgeting process due to the impasse over pensions. Now that he’s back in, LaSata hopes he’ll approve the spending plans the legislature came up with. She thinks the budget could be all finished this week or next week.
