If you have pesticides you need to get rid of, you’re in luck. On July 26, Berrien County will hold a pesticide collection event in Benton Township. However, you have to register in advance, and the deadline is July 12. Berrien County Parks Department Environmental Property Manager Jill Adams tells our newsroom they hold these events each year. She says it’s much better to drop off such chemicals at the event than it is to throw the chemicals away.

“The farmers and the homeowners out there really want to make sure these things get off of their properties, but then also get handled properly,” Adams said. “We keep seeing things come in, we keep seeing pesticides that have been banned for 30 years, that stuff still comes in.”

Adams tells us they’ll take pesticides from farmers, gardeners, greenhouses, and just plain regular folks who use pesticides in their yards. If you want to register for the free service, go to BerrienCounty.org/Recycle.
