Attendance for the Fourth of July at Silver Beach was up this year over last year. Berrien County Parks Director Brian Bailey tells WSJM News the weather was a big reason.
“Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday were perfect weather, and the water was cooperative,” Bailey said. “We had green or yellow flags as far as swimming conditions. It was just a wonderful weekend.”
For 2016, Bailey tells us the weather was cool and the water was choppy. On the holiday this year, Silver Beach allowed 892 vehicles in, while in 2016, there were 680 vehicles parked there. Bailey also tells us traffic and parking changes this year made by the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety have helped to alleviate congestion problems at the beach.
