The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department is planning to hold a citizen’s police academy. It’ll be the first one they’ve held in a decade. Sheriff Richard Fuller told WKZO News they’ll start out with local elected officials and teach them all about law enforcement practices.

“Things about the jail, things about what we do inside the jail, programming, the things we do in the garden, and how we use the garden food to feed inmates,” Fuller said.

Fuller tells us it’s important for elected officials to know about what the police are doing. Eventually, he hopes to open the academies up to the public.
