A new survey from AAA Michigan shows the average cost of owning and driving a car is nearly $8,500 per year. AAA spokeswoman Susan Hiltz tells Michigan News Network the type of vehicle can make a big difference.
“It’s kind of interesting that small sedans and small SUVs are on the low end, and pickup trucks and medium SUVs are on the high end,” Siltz said.
Hiltz says regular maintenance can help keep costs down. The AAA study finds it takes about $706 per month to own a car. It took into account recommended maintenance costs, fuel, and tire costs.
