St. Joseph Approves Tax Abatement For Whirlpool Tech Center Expansion

It’s almost a done deal for the Whirlpool St. Joseph Tech Center expansion. St. Joseph City Commissioners on Monday approved an industrial development district certificate for the property, meaning Whirlpool gets a tax abatement for the work. Rob Cleveland with Cornerstone Alliance tells WSJM News you could see action at the tech center in the near future.

“Some of the work will start fairly soon,” Cleveland said. “New construction probably in 2018. Renovation-wise, it’ll start fairly quickly.”

Cleveland tells us the state has already signaled its support of the project. Whirlpool plans to spend $35 million renovating and expanding the tech center in St. Joseph.
