Benton Harbor City Commissioners have approved an easement for a new pedestrian bridge across the Paw Paw River. It’s a Harbor Shores project designed to connect Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. At Monday’s city commission meeting, Mayor Marcus Muhammad said there’s nothing wrong with bringing the two communities together.

“I do believe, as I’ve stated before, that there are persons, people, groups on both sides that want to see the Twin Cities thriving and connected,” Muhammad said.

The commission previously tabled the easement for the bridge. On Monday, Commissioner Juanita Henry voted no, saying Harbor Shores still hasn’t completed some of the trail projects it once promised. She was the lone no vote, although Mayor Pro Tem Duane Seats and Commissioner CF Jones were not present.
