Adoption Day will be held at the Berrien County Court House today. The day is marked nationwide to salute the families who have taken the step of adopting. Many cases involve stepparents adopting children they’ve been raising. Sometimes, adults also want to recognize a stepparent by formally being adopted. At the Berrien County Courthouse, remarks will be made by Michigan Court of Appeals Judge David Sawyer. Each November is marked as Adoption Month, intended to highlight the needs of foster children. In Michigan, there were more than 12,600 children in the foster care system last year.
