LaSata Bill Would Rename Part Of Red Arrow Hwy To Honor Fallen Trooper

A stretch of Red Arrow Highway in Berrien County could be renamed in honor of a fallen Michigan State Police trooper. State Representative Kim LaSata on Tuesday testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee about her bill to rename Red Arrow between Glenlord and Hilltop roads the Trooper Robert J. Mihalik Memorial Highway. Trooper Mihalik was shot and killed on September 9, 1984 as he was arresting a suspect who had left a local gas station without paying for gas and cigarettes. LaSata tells us her bill is “a way to honor his sacrifice and remind us all of the dangers our first responders face on a daily basis.” LaSata was joined at Tuesday’s committee hearing by Trooper Mihalik’s wife, Carol Mihalik, along with his sister and two of his colleagues.
