The United Way of Southwest Michigan is taking over the job of connecting people with opportunities to volunteer. The United Way’s Rachel Wade tells WSJM News that means a big change for Volunteer Southwest Michigan.

“Volunteer Southwest Michigan will stop providing those services, and the United Way will expand and enhance the services we have been providing,” Wade said.

The United Way of Southwest Michigan is now in talks with non-profits all over the region to learn what sort of needs there are for volunteers. From there, it will set up a website, and work to connect all of those folks who want to donate their time to worthy causes with those causes. Volunteer Southwest Michigan, meanwhile, is shifting its focus to some court programs it helps to run. The change takes effect March 1.
