Cornerstone Alliance and Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce have had their chance to salute southwest Michigan’s biggest business movers and shakers. At their awards breakfast Thursday, Cornerstone Alliance President Rob Cleveland tells WSJM News JR Automation got the award for large manufacturer.

“Their 2017 had a $2 million expansion and 60 new jobs, and then our Economic Impact Award winner was toAEP-Cook Nuclear,” Cleveland said. “Cook is one of those institutions that can often be forgotten, but they’ve invested an awful lot in this community and they have a taxable value of nearly a billion dollars, and so they’re a huge economic engine for our community.”

The small business award went to the Mason Jar Cafe in Benton Harbor. The keynote speaker was Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, who talked about the state’s business climate. Looking ahead to the rest of 2018, Cleveland says he predicts a busy year, telling us the pipeline for new development is full.
