A K9 for the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department has gotten some new duds. Lajki is a 26-month-old German Shephard handled by Deputy Mike Martin. Lajki has been with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department for one year, and during his time there, Lajki has located drugs and also spent time in schools and at community events. Thanks to the group Vested Interest, Lajki now has a bullet and stab protective vest. Vested Interest is a non-profit that donates the protective vests to police K9s all over the country. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department tells us it’s provided more than 2,800 protective vests in 50 states through private and corporate donations at a cost of more than $2.4 million. Each vest, like the one Lajki got this week, runs about $950.
