Changes are coming to the fall wine festival in St. Joseph. Following action this week by city commissioners to allow it, the September event will now be known as the St. Joseph Today Roots and Brews Festival. St. Joe Today’s Amy Zapal tells WSJM News the old wine fest at Whirlpool Centennial Field just wasn’t enough to fill the space.

“He had done it for a number of years, and we feel that this is a better option for us,” Zapal said. “A lot of our wineries at that time of year are harvesting, as you can imagine, and it makes it difficult for them. This is a different way for us to celebrate the end of summer, and have some really good music and food and drink as well.”

The new Roots and Brews Festival will be held above the bluff at the open space behind Jimmy Johns. That’s also where the Winter Beer Festival is held. The new event will feature music, food, wine, and beer. They’ll still auction off the public art there, just like they did for the old wine fest.
