Congressman Fred Upton is still holding out hope for a replacement for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program after the Senate failed last week to put together an immigration bill. The DACA program enables young people brought into the country illegally as children to stay in the U.S. Upton tells WSJM News he’s been in regular contact with DACA kids in southwest Michigan.

“Earlier this week, I sat down with a number of our DACA students in Kalamazoo that are attending Western Michigan University and others that are working,” Upton said. “We need to get this thing resolved. I was very disappointed that the Senate failed to pass any proposal this last week.”

Upton tells us the Senate needs to abandon a rule requiring that almost everything get at least 60 votes in order to pass. He says that caused the immigration failure last week. He tells us all eyes are back on the House as it returns next week to solve the problem.
