The United Way of Southwest Michigan is already looking at the long-term needs of Berrien and Cass counties when it comes to flood cleanup. United Way of Southwest Michigan President Anna Murphy tells WSJM News that’s why the organization has teamed up with the Berrien Community Foundation for a disaster relief fund. Money donated to the new disaster relief fund will be held by the Berrien Community Foundation, and then go to the American Red Cross of Southwest Michigan.

“They really do have a really strong system on disasters and natural disasters,” Murphy said. “They have a very strong model of identifying and training volunteers to handle such disasters.”

Murphy says the money will go to the Red Cross once the Red Cross can show it will all stay local. You can donate to the fund at the United Way’s website. The page can be found right here. You can also text message “UWSMRELIEF” to 51555. That will bring up a webpage where you can pick a donation amount.
