There will be a fundraiser this week at Berrien Springs High School for local residents affected by flooding. Academic studies teacher Andrea Sprague tells WSJM News she’s going to teach an apple pie-baking class on Thursday, and then the pies will be sold the next day. All money raised will go to the families of about 30 students who had to evacuate the River Springs Estates mobile home park.

“One young lady, her mom went yesterday, and the water was still like three feet high in the trailer,” Sprague said. “Basically, everything in the trailer has been absolutely ruined. A lot of our families, the kids were in school when the call came out and I had some families that had 10 minutes to grab what they could before they were evacuated.”

Sprague tells us there will be an apple baking session on Thursday at 3 p.m. and then another one at 5:30 at the high school cafeteria. People are asked to make donations as the baking is underway, and then when the pies are sold the next day at the high school. She’s hoping hundreds of pies can be baked.
