The United Way of Southwest Michigan is running a children’s book drive all throughout this month. The organization’s Julee Laurent tells WSJM News they’ve got book drive stations in businesses and other locations all over Berrien and Cass counties, hoping to gather 5,000 of books by the start of spring break.

“A lot of kids in low income situations do not have access to books in their homes, and our main goal here is to get books into their hands that they can read in their spare time and look at whenever they’d like,” Laurent said.

Laurent tells us they’re looking for everything from books for little kids to the young adult set. Among the places serving as book drop off points are Honor Credit Union, Martin’s, and 1st Source Bank. Also, Mid-West Family Broadcasting’s own radio HQ in Benton Harbor has a drop-off spot. The books will go to organizations that work with children throughout Berrien and Cass counties. You can find the full list of locations where you can drop off a book right here.
