This week’s meeting of the Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education brought a statement from School Board President Marletta Seats about the status of ongoing investigations. Seats read a prepared statement, saying parents have asked her for an update on school safety, along with the investigation into Superintendent Shelly Walker. She said the board is working with the Michigan Departments of Treasury and Education to be sure all is above board.

“The school board represents your voice, which is why we are committed to excellence and setting the standard for the future of Benton Harbor Schools,” Seats said. “That is on behalf of the Benton Harbor School Board, and for those that are concerned, we are doing due diligence. Thank you.”

Seats did not have any new information. Superintendent Shelly Walker remains on non-disciplinary paid administrative leave. The board has not said when that situation might end.
