A meeting held at the Berrien County Health Department Tuesday aimed to spread the message that 911 is the number to call when a loved one is feeling suicidal. Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition founder Trent Watford told WSJM News 911 will connect someone who needs help with resources available.

“We would hate for someone to have a situation where there is a risk of suicide and not make use of that resource because they think it’s too drastic of a step or they’re just afraid of calling,” Watford said.

Watford hosted the Tuesday meeting that also featured representatives of Berrien County Central Dispatch, Michigan State Police, and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department. He says the coalition holds meetings each month to talk suicide prevention. Anyone looking for more information can check out BerrienCares.org.
