Bangor Public Schools will be closed on Thursday due to a threat found written on one of the stalls in a restroom. Bangor Interim Superintendent Lynn Johnson says in a letter to parents a custodian found the threat after school was dismissed Wednesday. Johnson says the situation is being investigated by police, and as a precaution, classes will be cancelled Thursday, March 22. Johnson adds the school district is “consistently working to prevent any acts of violence in our schools. We have strong working relationships with all local, county and state police departments, and take all threats seriously.”

Below is the full statement from the interim superintendent:

Wednesday March 21st, 2018

Dear Bangor Families,

As Interim Superintendent, my utmost responsibility is your student’s safety as well as the entire Bangor Public Schools Community. I hope this letter reaches you and reinforces your faith and confidence in us as we continue our journey to provide the best possible education in the safest and most secure learning environment.

This evening, sometime after school had already dismissed, a BPS custodian found a written threat on the stall in one of the boy’s bathrooms. At this time, the situation is being investigated by local law enforcement agencies. As the investigation continues and to ease student and family concerns, there will be “NO SCHOOL” tomorrow, March 22nd, 2018.

The administrative team and I want you to know we are consistently working to prevent any acts of violence in our schools. We have strong working relationships with all local, county and state police departments, and take all threats seriously.

Please know, our community and school families also play a critical role in our campus safety. Take time to make sure your child knows how important it is to tell a trusted adult immediately if they feel their school or well-being is threatened in any way. This includes sharing information about threats, weapons, or threatening acts of violence by a person or online.

As always, please contact my office should you have any further concerns.

Thank you

Lynn Johnson
Interim Superintendent
