It’s officially spring, and that means some work is underway at Silver Beach in St. Joseph. Berrien County Parks Director Brian Bailey tells WSJM News crews are moving sand away from roads and getting it back to the beach.

“Dump trucks full of sand were removed from the road leading to the Shadowland Pavilion from the gate house,” Bailey said. “Probably 25 dump trucks full of sand were removed from that area alone.”

Bailey says lots of work has to be done to prepare Silver Beach for summer tourists each year.

“It really takes us a good part of March and all of April and part of May to get it back to what people see in the summertime,” Bailey said.

They’ll take down the snow fences next month, and then start flattening out the sand in May. The deadline to get everything ready is May 15.
