It’s a big competition in west Michigan Friday and Saturday. It’s the First Robotics District Competition at Grand Valley State University. Referee Nicki Bonczyk told Michigan News Network a lot of kids come to watch the high schoolers compete.

“This thing is so great, especially if you have young kids or middle school-age kids because it’s a great time to get them hooked into STEM-related activities,” Bonczyk said.

Winners at this competition move on to the state championships in Saginaw in a few weeks. This year’s game is “Power Up,” which includes two alliances of video game characters and their human operators who are trapped in an arcade game.
